This week (30 th November) we learned about the fun things that you can do with Bondaweb. We painted it, added small snippets of fabric and generally had lots of fun with paint, glue and other messy things!
The Embroiderers' Guild Swansea is a local group that meets once a week and is open to people of all ages and all skills who share a love of embroidery and textile art. We meet every Friday in term time in Bryn House, Swansea, UK from 2-4

No ATC's But Angels Instead!
Sadly Robi was unable to teach her ATC class last week, so we had a Friday social afternoon instead. I took some photos of our members work. Next week we will be learning how to gift wrap with textiles

Tools, and Social Afternoon
On the 19th October we all brought any interesting tools, (antique or otherwise) for us all to look at. Sadly I was unable to go, so there are no pictures :@(
26th October was a normal Friday social afternoon. I took some pictures of our work. Bronwyn is doing a piece based on her grandchildren and Shirley is sewing a piece based on a workshop she did.
There is no meeting next week as it is half term

Social Afternoon and Library / Cuboard Clearout
Friday 12th October was a normal social afternoon. Robi and I decided to take on the task of sorting out the cupboard that contains our library and equipment and we managed it in around an hour and a half. We were so engrossed that I forgot to take photographs of everyone's work. Oops! Next week we will be bringing in antique or interesting embroidery tools to have a look at. Unfortunately I may not be there and therefore there may be no pictures next week either :@(

New Term and Beetles
I am out of routine with updating all the sites after the Embroiderers' Guild meetings. Please forgive me :@)
Friday 28th September was the first day back. We had a normal social afternoon and there was a lot of catching up after the summer holiday, but there was plenty of stitching as well. I took some photos of the things we are doing.
Friday 5th October we had a workshop by Ruth on stump work beetles. Unfortunatey I forgot to take pictures, but there is one so you can get the idea.
Next week (Friday 12th October) is a normal Friday social afternoon. Feel free to pop in and join us :@)

Last Day of Term
It was our last meeting of this academic year. We will meet up again in
September. Despite the excitement of it being the end of term, we did
manage to get lots of stitching done!

Stamping and Banner Letters
We had a very inspiring Friday afternoon with Robi who showed us the work she had done at the stamping workshop. She also brought with her some of the techniques she uses to stamp.
The letters for the Embroiderers' Guild banner are coming on well, there are only a few left now.
Next week is a social week and then there is only one more week until we break up for the summer holidays

Last Friday Before Half Term
It was the last Friday before half term and because the weather was not very nice there were a lot of members today. We did have vilene leaves planned, but everyone was so engrossed in their own work, that we just did our own thing

Vilene Leaves
We were due to have a lesson on making vilene leaves, but there were not many members yesterday, so we will do it another day instead. I took some pictures of the embroidery we were doing instead.

The Banner is Coming On.....
It was a normal Friday this week so I took some pictures of the letters for our banner that we are making. I think it will look lovely when it is finished. Next week we will be doing vilene flowers with Ruth

Banner
It has been decided that we will be having workshops every other Friday now and we have been working on our new banner. Each of us is getting a letter to make out of fabric and then they will be sewn together. Thank you Robi for all your help with this! I will post more details and pictures when they are available

Postcards and Apologies
I have not updated the blog for a few weeks, so I will start with an apology and an explanation! On the 2nd March I was away and so I was unable to attend. As it happens Robi's 'Take a Stitch' workshop was cancelled because there were very few people there that week (We sadly have a lot of ill members and members families at the moment) and so was the one on antique tools on the 9th. These will be rescheduled and not forgotten! Keep an eye on the website for updates www.embroiderersguildswansea.com
We (as a Guild) have been doing a project for a well known sporting event that is happening in London this year. As there is a possibility that we will get sued as we have not paid to use the name Olym**cs, I am having to take the name off the websites etc. If there are any references left, then I am sorry and will remove them as soon as I see them.
Hopefully we will be back on track next week with Shirley showing us painted Bondaweb, a technique that most of us probably know, but it is great to be reminded of the technique and see it with fresh eyes. Hopefully there will be pictures up in a few days

Transfer Paints
This week Alison Moger brought her transfer paints for us to play with. She showed us first how to do a basic print, then how to use masks to stop the paint transferring and then we could experiment.

Sketch Books and Olympic Postcards
I did not get around to updating the blog, sorry about that!
On the 3rd February we looked at Bronwen's sketch books from a course she is doing. They were very inspiring and there was so much to look at that she will be bringing them again.
Last week we were due to sew together our Olympic postcards, a challenge set by the Embroiderers' Guild where each branch gets a country and we make postcards to represent the location. Our theme was Thailand. Margaret had kindly sewn some together and although we were not short of volunteers, Liz sewed all the rest together. Thank you to both of them for doing that for us!
Alison Moger has been coming on Friday afternoons to help us with the embroideries for Cefn Coed and she will be here for a few more sessions, so our own workshops have been postponed (but not forgotten).
